In this interactive session we will discuss five challenges to student engagement and introduce practical strategies to address them as detailed in Eric Jensen's book, Teaching with Poverty in Mind.Strategies for Building Partnerships with Families and Community Agencies to Improve Student EngagementWhen families are challenged by poverty, social exclusion, and social isolation, educators working alone in fortress schools are challenged to improve student engagement and prevent disengagement. Backed by research and lessons learned from other schools, this workshop provides an introductory planning framework, elicits practical examples from participants, and helps colleagues get started with this important improvement agenda.
The district will plan in advance and provide appropriate district representation at the training/session.
