District Content Filtering Base Fee
With the content filtering appliance, Districts receive CIPA-compliant filtering based on a comprehensive education-specific database and granular customizable policies; teachers and students get access to the sites and tools that enhance education. District staff may also submit sites (via e-mail) for review, to block/unblock; or to have the WNYRIC alert other Districts. Any district participating in the service must provide the RIC with the necessary legal documents.

The content filtering solution, follows the recommended categories for K-12 education, blocks inappropriate web sites, and allows for district control of administration.The following are a list of features of this system: -Comprehensive and accurate URL database with more than 1 billion entries grouped into education-specific categories. -Daily URL database updates. -Ability to create different policies based on user, IP, group, organizational unit, and domain. -Mobile filtering to extend policies and protection to off-network users. -Web zones to give teachers the ability to expand or contract Internet access for specific assignments, periods, or classes. -Lockouts to allow administrators to set abuse thresholds triggering an Internet lockout. -Customizable block pages. -Multiple layers of anonymous proxy detection. -Flexible filtering for thin clients. -Peer-to-peer application and file-type blocking. -Safe Search. -Educational Resource Library with unfiltered access to educational YouTube videos, web sites, wikis and blogs, documents, and more.

- Planning with district and content filtering team/WAN team as part of implementation/planning process.
- Attend any announced content filtering workshops/meetings.
- If authorized override is used in district, must determine district procedures for distributing and keeping override ids secure (optional).
- If district chooses to maintain own customized filtering library, a designated administrator is named, trained, and is overall responsible for maintenance of filtering on a daily basis.
- Must submit required legal documentation to RIC (AUP, signed Superintendent Content Filtering Policy document, BOE resolution, authorized override option document, and IP ranges to filter in district).
- Report problems/issues to the WNYRIC to maintain quality service.
- Designate a Content Filtering Administrator for communications between the WNYRIC and the school district. Any change in contact person should be provided to the WNYRIC.
- Review Weekly Reports.
- Alert Content Filtering team of any planned maintenance or planned disruption that could affect the content filtering service.
The WNYRIC utilizes cost effective best practices determined by research that allows our experienced and trained technical staff to perform robust testing and support of the WNYRIC network in the areas of security, infrastructure, energy management, virtualization strategies, disaster recovery and business continuity. Therefore, we are able to be a district advocate for vendor contract issues and aggressively negotiate contract pricing and performance terms. Staff follow best practices in order to provide necessary security as it relates to the most recent student, teacher and principal data security and privacy regulations.
