The district will provide Policy Services with current contact information (the full names and titles, telephone numbers and email addresses) of up to three designated district officials (typically building principals) who will lead the Code of Conduct review. The district will provide its policy coordinator with its current Code of Conduct.
The Superintendent will create a Code of Conduct review committee, who will commit to full participation in this process. The committee will meet and offer feedback during the review of the Code of Conduct. The district should select a Code of Conduct review committee leader. The Code of Conduct review committee leader is responsible for providing district specific revisions to the policy coordinator for incorporation into the final Code of Conduct.
The district will also reserve appropriate meeting space at a time suitable for the staff, student, and community members involved. Upon request, the policy coordinator can meet with the Code of Conduct review committee (if the district is outside of western New York, the policy coordinator may attend virtually).
Since Code of Conduct pertain to student discipline, Policy Services strongly recommends that the new proposed Code of Conduct be reviewed thoroughly by the district's counsel.
Policy Services will provide a policy coordinator to help facilitate the review of the district's current Code of Conduct. The coordinator will provide the district with a standard template for a Code of Conduct which is up to date with law, regulation, guidance, and best practices.
As needed, the policy coordinator will help the Code of Conduct review committee leader facilitate the discussion and review process. The policy coordinator will be available to answer questions throughout the process and will provide a final draft for review at the public hearing. The coordinator can participate in Code of Conduct meetings by Zoom, WebEx, or other virtual platforms. In person attendance by a policy coordinator is only available for districts in Western New York.
After the Code of Conduct is approved by the district, Policy Services will email a Word version of the updated Code of Conduct. PDF versions are also available for inclusion in student handbooks and/or district calendars. A limited number of CDs and/or flash drives may also be provided.
