Data Privacy and Security Service supports district compliance with New York State Education Law 2-D and the Parents’ Bill of Rights, and provides resources to confront threats to district data and security.

Inventory Tool
This tool simplifies compiling of a software inventory and identifies key staff who need training. It also links to third-party vendor’s software privacy policies and simplifies compliance with provisions of the New York State Parents’ Bill of Rights.
Professional Development (Online)
Web-based security awareness training that follows a structured outline.
Digital Digests and Blasts
Quarterly digests are available on the topic of data privacy and security featuring current information on effective strategies, best practices and leadership resources. Digital blasts provide timely information as it occurs to keep districts informed of the latest developments in the field.
Digital Debriefs
Periodic interviews with industry leaders on topics related to data privacy and security.
District Sessions
Two half-day training sessions on service components.
- Designate an overall service contact
- Designate a Data Inventory Tool Administrator
- Designate a Professional Development Coordinator
- Identify up to (5) contacts to receive digital blasts
The WNYRIC utilizes cost effective best practices determined by research that allows our experienced and trained technical staff to perform robust testing and support of the WNYRIC network in the areas of security, infrastructure, energy management, virtualization strategies, disaster recovery and business continuity. Therefore, we are able to be a district advocate for vendor contract issues and aggressively negotiate contract pricing and performance terms.
Staff follows best practices in order to provide necessary security as it relates to the most recent student, teacher and principal data security and privacy regulations.
Service Desk can be reached Monday – Friday from 7:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. A representative will be available from 4:30 p.m. through 11:00 p.m. to assist you with calls regarding emergency situations. During all other hours and holidays, a caller will receive important information regarding coverage.
