Code of Conduct Review
This service is available to assist districts in reviewing and updating their codes of conduct. It includes an audit/review of the current Code for compliance with applicable law, regulation, and district practice, and suggested revisions to ensure the Code is updated to conform to those authorities. Policy Services staff will also be available to assist the appropriate committee(s) in effecting the necessary changes. The cost covers up to 6 hours of Erie 1 BOCES facilitation and preparation time. Additional time will be billed at $50 per hour.
The district will provide Erie 1 BOCES Policy Services staff with current contact information (the full names and titles, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses) of designated district officials who will be involved in the Code of Conduct review. The district will provide Policy Services staff with access to the current Code of Conduct. The district will designate a Code of Conduct review committee, who will commit to the full participation in this process. The committee will meet for a designated number of sessions and offer appropriate participation feedback during the review of the Code of Conduct. The district will also reserve appropriate meeting space at a time suitable for both the staff involved and the assigned policy coordinator.
Policy Services will provide a policy coordinator to help facilitate the review of the district's current Code of Conduct. The coordinator will review the Code of Conduct prior to the first committee meeting and make suggestions for revisions based on changes in law and regulation or areas of significance based on current district practice and culture (for example, the use of electronic equipment by students). As needed, the policy coordinator will help facilitate the discussion and review process at a series of committee meetings, track the revisions discussed during the committee meetings, and provide drafts at subsequent meetings. After the review process is complete, Policy Services will provide a final updated copy of the Code of Conduct and also furnish paper copies and/or CDs, as requested/needed.
